Job Summary of the Highway Superintendent, Town of Montgomery, NY

  • Inspect and record the condition and adequacy of the entire inventory of traffic control devices
  • Determine adequacy of the existing sign or device and determine whether it's function meets Federal and State requirements
  • Erect posts, install sign panels, and place other traffic control devices as determined necessary from inspections
  • Perform various maintenance work duties, including, but not limited to snowplow operations, roadway and roadside maintenance, bridge maintenance, building and grounds maintenance.
  • Manage stored inventory of all Town of Montgomery highway equipment and traffic control devices
  • Use computer software to record material condition, monitor maintenance work, and track all devices/signs as they leave storage
  • Understand and apply all State and Federal regulations as they apply to highway and bridge traffic control devices
  • Commercial Drivers License
  • Supervise excavation, paving, plowing, and mowing
  • Cooperate with adjacent towns and villages, NYSDOT, and Orange County Health Department of issues of common concern
  • Works flexible schedule during plowing season and is otherwise on call around-the clock

  • Received and completed projects with Multi-Modal Funding of $100,000 for; widening, regarding and stormwater improvements on Benedict, Beaverdam, and Lake Osiris Roads
  • Applied and received FEMA reimbursement for Highway and Police Department. Christmas Eve Snow Storm of 2002, and Presidents Day Snow Storm in 2003; Total Reimbursement- $67,796.00 (Highway), $3,697 (Police)
  • Received and completed 2003 Multi-Modal Funding of $7,500 for drainage improvements on Lake Vue Drive
  • Applied and received FEMA reimbursement for August 14, 2003 Blackout, and damage from Hurricane Frances August 2004- $18,107.00
  • Received and completed projects funded by 2004 CHIPS (Consolidated Hwy Improvement Program) $ 70,158.00
  • Applied and Awarded from New York State Department of Transportation $50,000 from purchase of dump truck in 2005.
  • Overseeing the maintenance of Town owned Parks
  • Constructed parking lot and landscaping at the Berea Ballfield
